Stop: Potty Time
So, Reid has officially entered potty training. We haven't done anything with the potty yet, but we're getting there. As you have had a toilet (or some reasonable adjunct) in every home you've lived in, our first goal was to make Reid completely comfortable with the potty we brought home from the store. Fortunately, Reid is rarely tentative with new things in the house. He toted it around, sat on it with a wide grin, put things in it (which we discouraged), pointed to his own bottom and generally had a good potty-time for several minutes, which is like 1,000 years in Reid-attention span time.
Then the big development: Reid took the potty to the bathroom, and grabbed a magazine on the way!
Seriously, we've had it kicking around the house for a couple days, making it as commonplace as one of our many non-cooperative non-Lego blogs (look, Lego is the only block that matters). Then this morning, Reid grabbed it and carried the potty to K's feet. And then he filled his diaper.
So we learned some valuable lessons. 1. Reid know what this is for. 2. We need to become quicker on the draw, like highly trained pant-removal ninjas. 3. We dump the what into the who now?
I confess that while I was completely on the page with the potty training, I was surprised to learn that the training is two stage. I really like the idea of Reid getting up there like a big boy and sitting on the commode. He seems (almost unduly) interested in the toilet and its workings, so it made sense to me. Therefore, I consider it a setback that we are training him once to go in this bowl, and then again to go in the grownup toilet.
But everyone has assured me that as parents, there is no end to our humiliation, so we will be handling the doody in the near future, if we can respond to Reid quickly enough to get the pants and diaper off and his little bum on the potty in time. I just hope he doesn't want to borrow my New Yorker.
Reid, K and I returned from our big Egypt trip tired and happy to be home, but already missing everybody we left behind. We had a beautiful weekend here resting and working on the lawn a little. But we've got a ton of Egypt pics so
