We joined our Egyptian family in Cairo for a wedding. My cousin Ingy married Mohammed in a ceremony on March 31st. Reid slept through part and was awake (for the food naturally) for part. The wedding featured an extended period of drumming and horn playing, as you can see above, as the bride and groom enter the hallway outside the main room.
Above, Katrena and Reid's grandpa show off their evening wear with Mama Tutu. Our visit also included some day trips. We went to Ismailia on the Suez canal. In the water behind my photo subjects you can see a mammoth barge slowly changing direction in the background.
On this trip, Reid rediscovered his love for mango juice and became a positively devoted follower of oranges, eating four or more a day. The Arabic word for orange is "bortoana." Also, our visit to the beach represented the first official sand-eating of the season. "Cheers!"
Reid and Mama Sawsen horsed around a little with me while we were over visiting their house. Reid's mango passion drew in many acolytes, including his uncle Cherif.
We also visited Alexandria, or el-Askandria, on the Mediterranean Sea with Mama Amera. Reid acquired a rock from the Citadel that stands at the enge of Alexandria's cove guarding the city from invaders. He is shown holding the rock in front of Egypt's naval memorial. He also displayed a cheeky but of mirth as he and K posed in front of the Alexandria lighthouse.
