Reid Kicks It Grandparent Style

During Reid's parents wonderful trip to Italy, he went and hung out with his grandparents on his dad's side. Then soon after we went down to visit his grandparents on his mom's side. It was a grandparent bonanza! Especially for us. (Click on any of these pictures to see a great big version.) Anyhow, in this picture, we can see Reid making himself comfortable while visiting his Nonni. Nonni appears to have taken all these pictures herself, and therefore doesn't appear in any photographs. They attended a fireman's parade where Reid showed off one of his new strange adult-like mannerisms, shielding his eyes while looking into the sun. Regular toddlers don't know what to do when the sun's in their eyes. Reid? He salutes. Later he got behind the wheel of an amusingly old-timey car and had a fine motoring afternoon. Reid has always harbored a strange enjoyment of shoes of all kinds. As frequent readers of this site know, Reid's mom is out of town somewhat frequently, and Reid and I most often launch long discussions about his mom when he notices, somewhat tenderly, a pair of her shoes by the door. Today, he tried on a pair of espadrilles that she left on the stairs (she's traveling again this week). So it's no surprise that Reid was unable to resist a morningtime visit to this blue and purple boots.

From Nonni's house, we went to Baba's place, which seemed to revolve around one of Reid's current favorite concepts: flight. While you can't tell from this shot, the impressively large television in the background is showing either "Iron Eagle" (which seems unlikely) or video of a recent air show. This was buildup, of course, to Reid's first flight in a general aviation small aircraft, Baba's Piper Cherokee Six. You'll note the salute again. Reid had a wonderful time, and continues to rave about the trip. (Note to non-Reid-affiliated grandparents: aircraft ownership is an expensive but foolproof way to catapault to the top of the grandparent roster. Note to Reid's non-Baba grandparents: get an airplane. Just kidding. I'll probably have to take this down when K reads it.)

When we travelled down to visit Grammy and PawPaw in Atlanta, K caught a little bug so I stuck around taking care of her while Reid took in some serious grandparent action for the second time in as many weeks. They took in the Atlanta Children's Museum. At left, we see Reid finding a new way to 'fish.' This game probably has magnets or big, easy-to-maneuver hooks to simulate fishing for children. Reid just plunged his arm into the swirling water like a bear or an Amazon tribesman and grabbed the fish with bare hands. Isn't this smiling shot of Reid in his artist's smock adorable? The museum also had an indoor sandbox. Grammie is celebrating Reid's triumphant creation of a sand-castle. Moments later, she was probably covered in sand.
